SECRET PAL REMINDER

Dear Friends,

September is almost over - please remember to do something small for your secret pal.
It makes a world of difference to them!

Early Release on Wednesday

Hi Parents -

Just a reminder that this Wednesday the kids will be coming home 2 hours earlier than normal.

PARAGON FUNDRAISER

Hi Parents and Students,

The Paragon Fundraising catalogs should have come home with your wonderful middle school student on Friday. There are two catalogs and two order forms along with a Manila envelope to collect the money. The money we raise from this fundraiser will cover the cost to support the PTSA programs and to purchase the Mini-Laptops for the students. Last year we were about to give $11,600 towards the renovation of the bathrooms, printers, computers, PTSA programs and classroom needs. What a great feeling that is to know the bathrooms are done - the kids have current technology and we are contributing towards more of it!

This has been a fabulous fund raiser for us in the past and we hope that each of you will support the PTSA this year by letting your student approach you for a sale or a grandma or grandpa, and so on.

There are prizes for making various sales amounts. The number to reach that prize is the number of items, no persons! So if one person orders 6 things - then the student gets to participate in the "Pen Prize" ... 15 for the "Soda and Money Scramble", and so on. There should be a green piece of paper in your students packet outlining the prizes.

There are some that prefer to donate to the cause instead of purchasing items - that's great! For every sale we make 40% for every donation we make 100%. So if you were going to spend $20 for Paragon but didn't see anything that you "had to have" please know we accept donations.

The Paragon Fund raiser will continue until October 7 - at which point ORDERS and MONEY are due back to the school.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Beth Sherer at 228-6112.
Thanks again for your support!

GO MUSTANGS!

PICTURE YOURSELF RECYCLING!

What a great GREEN day! Today was Kentucky Kids Day at NOMS. The PTSA had to be creative because the school made a new policy that NO food could be given out during school. YIKES! That's the best way to make middle school kids happy - food and money, that is. So our wonderful Kentucky Kids Day Chairpersons, Nancy Stevens and Susan Spayd came up with the idea of getting the kids to think bigger than themselves by getting into recycling, and "picturing themselves doing it" by adding some fun with the photo booths. What a great idea!!!
During the different lunches the kids got to use GREEN pens to sign the "I Will Recycle" Pledge and then they got to have their picture taken for FREE with their friends. Here are two 8th Graders signing the Recycling Pledge...
More and More signing the Recycling Pledge ...

These photo booths were so cool!
Four poses,
four pictures and
four friends (sometimes more)
Friends getting their picture taken!

Today was a day of friendship, going GREEN and smiles!

Tanner is recycling - how about you?

"I'm going to recycle everyday!"

These guys said they wanted their picture taken again!

Friends in line waiting to have their picture taken together!
It didn't matter what grade they were - every lunch period was packed with kids wanting their picture taken.

Kicking Off Kentucky Kids Day!

This year at our annual PTSA Fundraiser Kick off assembly we added a twist ...

In addition to the annual fun and games showing the kids what they can earn by supporting our MAIN fundraiser we did a KICK-OFF for Kentucky Kids day (Monday) would be all about. Last year NOMS PTSA rolled out the RED carpet for the students at NOMS, this year it was more like everyone was going GREEN. Yes, that right - because we care so much about these kids the NOMS PTSA purchased paper recycling bins for EVERY classroom plus four large plastic bottle and aluminum can recycling bins for the cafeteria and gym. We are so excited to be going GREEN! To start us off Mr. Duvall shared some statistics about what we are currently doing to our planet, and more importantly what each of us can do to help the situation. The scariest one was that "Mount Rumpke" (a land fill in Ohio) is the tallest mountain in Ohio. Great the tallest place in Ohio is made of our (there) trash. GROSS!

Some examples are to cut your shower time, turn off the water while you brush your teeth, turn off lights while you are not in that room, just to name a few. I hope the kids were listening because it will really help parents cut the cost of water and electricity and save our planet.

The kids were so well behaved. After the assembly we commented "Only at NOMS could you have an assembly where the speaker didn't use a microphone and still be able to hear him."
We love our kids at NOMS!!!

Great kids!

The final event at the assembly was the "Recycling Skits" put on by the Discover the Arts Department and Ms. Churchman. She organized a recycling skit contest and then had the kids perform the two "top" skits. How cute is that! The kids love it ... and in case they didn't tell you about it, you can ask them about the recycling ninjas, and the two girls below that are the recycle elves "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle".
"Recycling is cool - everyone should do it!"

These girls promised to recycle - aren't they great!
